Do you favor the decision made about the new Main Library in the park to be built on Goodwood Boulevard? Or do you think it should be built downtown to help the revitalization of the area?

It appears that some of those pushing to move the main branch downtown are doing so with the notion that this would bring needed human traffic to the businesses in the downtown area. Are we sure we can’t think of another way to attract consumers to that revitalized retail market? While I believe in and support the revitalization project for downtown BR, I also believe that refurbishing/redesigning the existing branch located in the heart of the down town district may be a far better solution? Perhaps a computer cafĂ© with integrated stacks from the existing library could be arranged in the current location. Add to that a large coffee shop both indoor and outdoor and voila, you have the “Barnes and Noble experience” which is a formula that needs no more explanation.
I feel certain that any patron of the current Goodwood “main branch” would tell anyone interested in asking that they want their library right where it is. It serves the community well in its current location. Rebuilding in that location is a visible symbol to all who live in and travel through BR of how much import is placed on our main repository of learning.
